  • Latin American Air Force cadets tour US, build partnerships throughout the hemisphere

    Future leaders of 11 Latin American Air Forces visited 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) on the tail-end of their visit through the United States, as part of the Latin American Cadet Initiative. The twenty-two cadets represented air forces from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.
  • Admiral Faller emphasizes to USSOUTHCOM’s air component that teams win

    The Commander of U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Navy Admiral Craig Faller, visited 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) Jan 8-9, 2019. Faller recently took command of the U.S. Southern Command, which is responsible for all Department of Defense security cooperation in the 45 nations and territories of Central and South America and the Caribbean Sea. The visit was meant to integrate and familiarize him with 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern), the air and space component to USSOUTHCOM.
  • 25th OWS celebrates 75th anniversary

    Surrounded by historic aircraft in the main hangar of the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tuscon, Arizona, the 25th Operational Weather Squadron celebrated its 75th anniversary Nov. 2, 2018. Originally known as the 25th Weather Squadron, the unit provided weather support to Army and Army Air Corps units operating and training throughout the Northeastern U.S. from an office building on New York’s Long Island.
  • U.S. Air Force hydrazine team train Chilean Airmen

    A U.S. Air Force hydrazine Mobile Training Team traveled to Los Condores Air Base, Chile, to conduct classroom instruction and hands-on training with Chilean Air Force fuels technicians. Hydrazine is a back-up fuel used in F-16 Fighting Falcons that allows a pilot to regain control in the event of an electrical or hydraulic failure. When the hydrazine is released it creates a chemical reaction that allows the pilot to manually maneuver the aircraft in order to land it safely. The two-man team taught seven Chilean fuel Airmen how to properly assemble, operate and maintain their new hydrazine servicing stand. The stand is used to refuel and defuel, purge, and prepare a shipment of hydrazine tanks.
  • Brazil leads Air Component in PANAMAX 2018

    U.S. service members from the 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) and the 612th Air and Space Operations Center participated in the U.S. Southern Command PANAMAX 2018 exercise July 30 – Aug. 10 alongside members from 12 partner nations. The Brazilian Air Force Chief of Joint Air Operations Center, Aerospace Operations Command, Maj. Gen. João Campos Ferreira Filho, served as the Combined Forces Air Component Commander for PANAMAX 2018. This is the third year that a member from a partner nation air force has been the CFACC. The 12 partner nations that participated in the exercise at Davis-Monthan AFB include: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and Peru. Polish Air Force members also joined the exercise here as observers.
  • Colombian Kfirs fighters train with the A-10, F-16

    Six Colombian Air Force Kfir fighter jets on their way to Red Flag 18-3 at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, stopped at Davis-Monthan AFB from July 5-16, to train with A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and F-16 Fighting Falcons. “This week is very important here at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base because our pilots and aircrew can train alongside members of the United States Air Force, which allows a better training environment for all,” said Colombian Air Force Brig. Gen. Pablo Garcia, Aerial Combat Command 1 commander.
  • 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) Air Force Section Chief Theater Security Cooperation Workshop

    The workshop brought key personnel together to discuss strategy and to plan fiscal years 2019-2021 events in 12th Air Force’s (Air Forces Southern) Area of Responsibility. Seventeen Air Force Section Chiefs, fourteen National Guard Bureau State Partner Program representatives, as well as, air advisors from the 571st Mobility Support Advisory Squadron, officials from U.S. Southern Command and Secretary of the Air Force International Affairs joined members of 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) for the workshop.
  • USSOUTHCOM officials conduct annual METOC conference

    Officials from the U.S. Southern Command held their annual SOUTHCOM Meteorological and Oceanographic conference here, Feb. 6. The 2-day-long gathering brought meteorology and oceanography specialists together from various sections of the Department of Defense to discuss operations, lessons learned from 2017, and ways to move forward in the future.
  • Honduran, U.S. volunteers conduct underground search and rescue training

    Nearly a dozen Honduran Personal Utilizado en Misiones Contra Incendio y Rescate – Personnel Used in Fire and Rescue (PUMCIR) volunteers and seven U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to Joint Task Force-Bravo at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, conducted a search and rescue exercise in Comayagua National Park near El Volcan, Honduras.
