    It’s All About People panel focuses on diversity, inclusion, respect

    Retired Gen. Larry O. Spencer moderated the panel, titled “It’s All About People – Join Us,” which featured Under Secretary of the Air Force Gina Ortiz Jones; retired Gen. Edward A. Rice Jr.; Lt. Gen. Brian T. Kelly, deputy chief of staff for Manpower, Personnel, and Services; and Patricia Mulcahy, U.S. Space Force chief human capital officer.

    New dress and appearance updates will soon be released following feedback, testing from Airmen and reviews conducted as a part of the 2020 Air Force Uniform Board.

    Over the last few years, the Air Force has committed to creating a more diverse, inclusive, and innovative environment by encouraging innovation within the ranks and establishing programs and departments such as the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Women of the 90th Aircraft Maintenance Unit at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson are leading the way in innovation and inclusion with their new lactation pod, allowing Airmen who are nursing mothers to continue contributing to the mission at work and at home. Staff Sgt. Victoria Hall, now a dedicated crew chief assigned to the 757th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, had a part in the planning and acquisition of a lactation pod for the 90th AMU.

    Air Force readdresses women’s hair standard after feedback

    The change addresses feedback received since the previous guidance was originally published. Specifically, women voiced concerns over difficulty related to securing hair in a manner that does not extend beyond the head.

    Deployed Airman celebrates Black History Month at wing pioneered by Tuskegee Airmen

    Black History Month takes on special significance at the 332nd AEW because the wing finds its roots in the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, a segregated African-American unit who earned distinction during WWII. Only activated during combat, the wing has performed its mission two different times since the 1940s, in Al Jaber, Iraq, and now in an undisclosed location also in the Middle East. With that in mind wing Airmen formed a committee to celebrate Black History.

  • Department of the Air Force institutes Office of Diversity and Inclusion

    In June 2020, former Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett stood up a Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, which has evolved into this new office. The organization will work directly for the secretary of the Air Force and continue to address the strategic impact of diversity, inclusion and equity on Airmen, Guardians and their families.

In addition, women’s bangs may now touch their eyebrows, but not cover their eyes.

    Department of the Air Force increases commander accountability for climate survey results

    The Department of the Air Force released a memorandum Dec. 21, highlighting improvements made to address concerns identified in Defense Equal Opportunity Climate Survey reports, a tool for leaders to assess command climate.
