HPO program increases readiness and lethality

Pararescuemen risk life and limb in order to save the lives of others. Over time, these great efforts cause strain to the body, and, if not treated proactively, can lead to potential permanent damage. 48th Rescue Squadron pararescuemen out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base realized that having medical personnel on and off deployments, as well as tackling injuries and discomforts early on, would keep them mobile, deployment-ready and help ensure a pain-free future. With the help of U. S. Air Force Col. Colleen McBratney, 355th Aerospace Medicine Squadron commander, a team comprised of surgeons, physicians and mental health specialists was built to accomplish these objectives. Thus, D-M’s Human Performance Optimization program was born.

Motivated, dedicated, a step above the rest

They may be dramatically visible – a missing limb or facial scar. They may also dwell beneath the skin’s surface as mental trauma that persists long after its elicited events. For many veterans, their wounds are obstacles, but for one there is nothing that can hinder his strive for excellence. After serving 14 years, a misfortune occurred that prevented U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Derrall Peach Jr. from legally doing his job as a ground transportation craftsman with the 355th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

Police week honors fallen defenders

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base will participate in National Police Week from May 13 – May 19, 2018. Police Week is held each year to commemorate fallen law enforcement officers and highlight the security forces mission.

CE test warfighting capabilities

The 355th Civil Engineer Squadron participated in an airfield damage response and assessment exercise at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base March 28-30, 2018. The exercise was held to evaluate their response to a damaged airfield in a simulated deployed environment.

Airman to attend medical degree prep

Staff Sgt. Shane Berger, an airborne linguist with the 755th Operational Support Squadron, was one of nine enlisted Airmen selected to attend a medical degree preparatory course. The Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program gives selected Airmen an opportunity to complete the preparatory coursework for admission to medical school while maintaining active duty status.

Rescue community integrates training

An aircraft crashed. Both pilots successfully ejected, but have wounds varying from traumatic brain injuries to deep cuts and contusions. Having received intelligence, pilots and crew of an HC-130J Combat King II take off, followed by two HH-60G Pave Hawk’s that carrying teams of pararescuemen. Their mission is to locate and rescue both survivors from potentially hostile territory. This was an exercise scenario Airmen faced during Tiger Rescue IV, March 27-30, 2018, at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.

48th RQS PJs primed for deployment after extensive training cycle

For the past few months, pararescuemen from the 48th Rescue Squadron out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., have been gearing up for a deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. They began with a five day tactical medical course in the pine-wooded environment of Perry, Florida, and then moved on to the culmination of their training at Razor’s Edge, a 2-week-long isolated personnel recovery exercise.
