  • Getting right for readiness

    The 633rd Medical Group implemented a new program that incorporates individual medical readiness requirements into the First-Term Airmen Course curriculum at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. The Medical Right Start Program, initially launched in July 2018, aims to reduce overdue IMR statuses throughout the medical group, enabling Airmen to focus on the JBLE mission.
  • Airmen and Soldiers build bombs together at combat shadow event

    Airmen from the 455th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron AMMO Flight taught Soldiers from the 495th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion how to assemble GBU-54 Laser Joint Direct Attack Munitions. The 500-pound bombs will be added to the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing’s built-up weapons stocks and will eventually be loaded onto F-16s for operational use. Nine Soldiers got hands-on experience building bombs alongside Airmen as part of the combat shadow program at Bagram Airfield Jan. 23.

    It is no secret that Joint Base Langley-Eustis has a large retiree community. Though they have left the service, many veterans choose to give back to the armed service community by volunteering their time at various on-base agencies. Some of these veterans sat down to share why they continue to serve today.
  • 31st TES begins F-35 Initial Operational Test and Evaluation

    The 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron kicked off the DoD’s F-35 Initial Operational Test and Evaluation with a large force employment sortie from Edwards AFB, Calif. Dec. 5. During the IOT&E phase the 31st TES F-35 pilots will fly over 30 missions designed to fully evaluate the complete air system as well as identify technical and operational areas for improvement.
  • Army, Navy provide Tyndall much-needed support

    While Hurricane Michael created catastrophic devastation to most of Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, the relief efforts were an instant reminder of the symbiotic relationship between military branches. In the days following the storm, the Air Force came in droves to provide support with the Navy and Army not far behind. Engineers from the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133, Gulfport, Mississippi, and the 46th Engineer Battalion, Ft. Polk, Louisiana, hit the ground running. They traveled in convoys bringing with them construction vehicles and equipment. Unable to bring everything they would need, they also planned to have contracted vehicles meet them at Tyndall.

    Airmen of the 609th AOC Det. 1 support real-world command and control operations everyday with AFCENT’s forward headquarters at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. Whether it’s ensuring the Combined Air Operations Center maintains resiliency in the face of any attack or situation, or planning hundreds of daily air mobility missions, this partnership between the Airmen in Qatar and the U.S. is essential to a new model of C2 operations. As a violent force approached, the Airmen dug in to repel the force. It was just like an attack, but this one came from nature.
  • Moody makes some noise during Diversity Day

    Team Moody hosted the 23d Wing Diversity Day, Sept. 14, 2018, at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. Diversity Day honored the cultures of all groups and organizations observed by the Department of Defense using forms of expression such as poems and native dances. The theme of this year was ’Many Cultures, One Voice: Stronger Through Inclusion And Equality’.
  • 99th MDG: The backbone of DoD spine surgery

    As one of the more limited Air Force Medical Service specialties, orthopedic spine surgery has only three authorized surgeons in the entire Department of Defense, two of whom are now on the team at Nellis Air Force Base. The 99th Medical Group successfully completed its first set of orthopedic spine surgeries after bringing two highly-specialized spine surgeons to the unit August 20.
  • US Air Force participates in Angel de los Andes Colombian led search and rescue exercise

    Two U.S. Air Force aircraft and more than 90 U.S. Airmen are participating in “Angel de los Andes,” a Colombian led international search and rescue training exercise Sept. 3-14. One C-17 Globemaster III from the 14th Airlift Squadron at Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina and one C-130 Hercules from the 133rd Airlift Squadron with the Minnesota Air National Guard are among the eight U.S. Air Force Active, Guard and Reserve components participating. The first week of the exercise is focused on responding to with natural disaster scenarios that include earthquake response, a forest fire and open water rescue, as well as, responding to an aircraft crash. The second week will focus closely on close air support and combat search and rescue techniques.
  • 388th Fighter Wing standing up final F-35A aircraft maintenance unit

    Hill’s 388th Fighter Wing recently began standing up the last of its aircraft maintenance units, a big step toward receiving the full complement of F-35A Lightning IIs by the end of 2019. The 421st AMU, which will support the 421st Fighter Squadron, is preparing to receive its first aircraft in December. The unit is filling out the roster with new Airmen and training on four jets loaned from other 388th FW units.
