FSS operations officer awarded Bronze Star at MHAFB

“Deploying into a combat zone for a year is intense,” said Capt. Kristen Miranda, 366th Force Support Squadron operations officer. Miranda served as the director of operations for the 405th Expeditionary Support Squadron at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, from April 2019 to April 2020. She was awarded the Bronze Star, August 20, 2020, here for her heroic actions during an 11-hour complex ground attack on Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan on December 11, 2019.

Team Eglin prepared, ready for F-15EX

Red Flag adjusts for today’s challenges

The 414th Combat Training Squadron (CTS), which oversees Red Flag, is making changes to the exercise for improved efficiency at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. Red Flag is a realistic multi-domain training exercise that maximizes the combat readiness and survivability of participants by providing a robust, accurate training environment. While early Red Flag exercises focused on survivability of combat pilots, Red Flag integrates the five core functions of the Air Force: Intelligence Reconnaissance Surveillance (ISR), Command and Control, Air Superiority, Strike and Personnel Recovery to ensure Airmen are ready for today’s fight.

Beneath the Skies: Aircraft Maintainers

One of the largest support structures here at the 332d Air Expeditionary Wing can be broadly defined as aircraft maintainers. This not only includes those individuals who perform pre-flight, thru-flight (where an aircraft returns from a mission then embarks on another mission within a couple hours) and post-flight safety and function checks, but also several “back shops” which specialize in a certain aspect of the aircraft’s function such as weapons, guidance or propulsion systems.
