  • 38th RQS Airman receives Silver Star

    U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Chad P. Franks, 15th Air Force commander, presented Staff Sgt. Nicholas Brunetto, 38th Rescue Squadron pararescueman, with a Silver Star Medal Oct. 29. Brunetto performed a lifesaving procedure on a severely-injured teammate while deployed in February 2020 in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and the Resolute Support mission.

  • Enlisted weapons school grad applies course fundamentals in Afghanistan

    One of the Air Force’s first Advanced Enlisted Mission Planning Course graduates is applying what he learned in the classroom to support combat operations in Afghanistan. The 455th Air Expeditionary Wing intelligence flight chief at Bagram Airfield completed AEMPC, which is now known as the Advanced Intelligence Instructor Course, prior to deploying to Afghanistan. He isn’t the first AEMPC or AIIC grad to serve in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, but he’s the first to wear the patch, which was approved in October 2018.

    There’s a room tucked away in the corner of a building at Bagram Airfield, where the ‘eyes and ears of the commander’ lives. The room features ample desk space, a few computer monitors, and binders full of checklists. When the phone rings, a command and control specialist picks up. This time it’s a C-130 requesting refueling upon landing. The ground coordination immediately begins as the command and control specialist systematically executes the steps outlined by her checklists to fulfill the request.
  • October summary highlights partnerships, airpower contributions

    Today, U.S. Air Forces Central Command published its October Airpower Summary outlining airpower operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. In October, the Afghan Air Force played a pivotal role in the country’s parliamentary elections, delivering and retrieving voting materials to and from election centers throughout the provinces. Their crucial contributions reflect the developing professional and capable air force with whom AFCENT Airmen partner in NATO’s Resolute Support Mission to train, advise and assist Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
  • AFCENT Airmen Support Afghan Airdrop Training and MERV Clearance Ops

    U.S. Air Forces Central Command published its September Airpower Summary today highlighting airpower operations in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. In Afghanistan, AFCENT Airmen operated as part of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel and the NATO Resolute Support Mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan Air Force, most recently in ‘Speedball’ training – a rapid relief supply airdrop capability. Simultaneously, in Iraq and Syria, Coalition Airmen enabled ISIS clearance operations within the Middle Euphrates River Valley as a part of Operation Inherent Resolve and provided security forces assistance to the Iraqi Aviation and Air Defense Enterprise through the efforts of the Coalition Aviation Advisory and Training Team.
  • 175th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron Brings U.S. Airpower to Bagram

    U.S. Airmen and F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 175th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron (EFS) deployed to Bagram Airfield in support of combat operations, July 27. The 175th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron replaced the 125th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, out of Tulsa Air National Guard Base, Oklahoma, who delivered decisive airpower for the past three months.
