    Medical Airmen work to improve efficiency in patient care in Afghanistan

    Medical professionals at the Craig Joint Theater Hospital at Bagram Airfield are working to make positive impacts during their deployment so future patients and providers can benefit. The current trauma resuscitation documentation and data collection process in Afghanistan is very similar to the process stateside. A five-page paper form, a trauma resuscitation record, is used to document patient care and is hand-written by healthcare teams. The T6 Health System mobile device application is a high resolution, digital documentation system, that is a multi-dimensional data and point-of-care analytics system that opens up the possibility of precision and predictive trauma care to theater if CJTH staff can explore the feasibility of using this technology in routine care of trauma patients, mass casualty situations, point of injury and en-route care.

    During a recent raid on a terrorist stronghold in a remote Afghan village, U.S. ground forces came under enemy fire. They called for close air support, and shortly thereafter, an F-16 Fighting Falcon dropped munitions to eliminate the threat.

    COMACC visits Airmen in Afghanistan

    Air Combat Command’s top leadership visited deployed Airmen and mission partners at Bagram and Kandahar airfields, Afghanistan, Feb. 12-14 as part of a weeklong trip to the Middle East and Southwest Asia.

    Command Post: Eyes and Ears of the Commander

    There’s a room tucked away in the corner of a building at Bagram Airfield, where the ‘eyes and ears of the commander’ lives. The room features ample desk space, a few computer monitors, and binders full of checklists. When the phone rings, a command and control specialist picks up. This time it’s a C-130 requesting refueling upon landing. The ground coordination immediately begins as the command and control specialist systematically executes the steps outlined by her checklists to fulfill the request.

    Airmen from the 455th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron AMMO Flight taught Soldiers from the 495th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion how to assemble GBU-54 Laser Joint Direct Attack Munitions. The 500-pound bombs will be added to the 455th Air Expeditionary Wing’s built-up weapons stocks and will eventually be loaded onto F-16s for operational use. Nine Soldiers got hands-on experience building bombs alongside Airmen as part of the combat shadow program at Bagram Airfield Jan. 23.

    Force protection Airmen vital to base security

    U.S. military bases throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility rely on local and other non-U.S. contractors to support base construction and maintenance needs. To ensure the safety and security of base personnel and assets at Bagram Airfield, Airmen assigned to the force protection team escort these contract employees in areas containing essential personnel, equipment or information that must be protected from disclosure to enemy forces.

    Remembering our Heritage

    A majority of Airmen assigned to Bagram Airfield live on a compound called Camp Cunningham, but few know the story of the hero whose name it bears. Senior Airman Jason Cunningham was a Carlsbad, New Mexico native who joined the Air Force’s elite combat rescue training program and graduated pararescue training in June 2001. Shortly after being deployed to Southwest Asia in 2002, he found himself as the primary Air Force combat search and rescue medic assigned to a quick reaction force. His actions in battle saved lives, even after he was critically wounded, he continued to direct patient movement and transferred care to another medic before eventually succumbing to his wounds.

    175th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron Brings U.S. Airpower to Bagram

    U.S. Airmen and F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 175th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron (EFS) deployed to Bagram Airfield in support of combat operations, July 27. The 175th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron replaced the 125th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, out of Tulsa Air National Guard Base, Oklahoma, who delivered decisive airpower for the past three months.

    A U.S. Air Force First: Two Sister Units From Two Different Countries Supply Afghan Advisors

    BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan -- In the mountainous terrain of Afghanistan two U.S. C-130J Hercules aircraft airdropped over 30 Container Delivery System (CDS) bundles to a Resolute Support Expeditionary Advisory Package (EAP), May 4. Unlike previous combat airdrop missions, this dual-formation airdrop was executed by two geographically separated units, the 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron (EAS) an active-duty squadron, located at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, and the 746th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, a reserve squadron located at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.
