  • From skies to seas: 28th TES supports US Navy OT in biological protection

    The 28th Test and Evaluation Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base is supporting the operational test assessment of the U.S. Navy’s Enhanced Maritime Biological Protection System, new system to detect biological substances that could be harmful to the ship’s crew, such as anthrax.

  • Air Force Vice Chief of Staff visits 53rd Wing

    Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Stephen W. Wilson toured the 53rd Wing, at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida to gain a better understanding of 53rd Electronic Warfare readiness. The 53rd Electronic Warfare Group has 28 labs that replicate the hardware for over 30 weapon systems where all EW reprogramming for Combat Air Force aircraft takes place. The 53rd Wing has 74 units in 23 locations responsible for fighter, bomber, space and remotely piloted air vehicle operational testing and evaluation, and tactics development and evaluation in the areas of electronic combat, armament, avionics and aircrew training devices.

    The 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group will conduct its first post-Hurricane Michael COMBAT ARCHER Dec. 3-14. This COMBAT ARCHER will exercise and evaluate the air-to-air weapon system capability of F-22s from the 27th Fighter Squadron from Langley AFB, Va and two F-35s from the 58th Fighter Squadron at Eglin AFB. The F-22s and F-35s will be flying out of Eglin AFB and performing live fire in the warning areas south of Tyndall AFB.

  • Combat Shield inspection certifies Saber readiness

    The 480th Aircraft Maintenance Unit’s Avionics Shop here underwent a Combat Shield evaluation March 20–24. A Combat Shield evaluation team from the 16th Electronic Warfare Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, conducted the annual inspection to gauge the effectiveness of the threat-detection systems and countermeasures aboard the F-16 Fighting Falcons assigned here.
