  • Advanced LEAP Scholars Host Virtual Subject Matter Expert Exchange

    Through the Training Partnership Request program, Spanish Language Enabled Airman Program scholar Master Sgt. Victor Perez recently provided language support to a Search and Rescue Subject Matter Expert Exchange between the U.S. Air Force, the Mexican Air Force, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA in Spanish), and Integral Aerial Surveillance Systems (SIVA in Spanish). The TPR program allows the Air Force Culture and Language Center to pair advanced LEAP scholars with partner organizations to host advanced Language Intensive Training Events.

    At the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, two additional Air Force medical teams totaling 360 personnel are part of the Department of Defense’s latest deployment of 860 military medical and support personnel deployed to Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Virginia, and who are to deploy to Indiana and Missouri, to support state-run, federally supported Community Vaccination Centers.

  • 1AF’s Air Force Auxiliary pilots help with distribution efforts for Operation Warp Speed

    Before the sun rose, two Civil Air Patrol pilots completed their preflight checklist inside a hangar at Bemidji Regional Airport, Minn. Lt. Col. Robert Bowden and Maj. Rod Rakic knew what was at stake: time-sensitive distribution of COVID vaccine to Native American Tribes in the Midwest. The mission on Jan. 6 was part of an interagency agreement between the Civil Air Patrol and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Indian Health Service. Authorized under the Economy Act, the agreement allowed CAP to act as a Civilian Auxiliary of the Air Force, and fly the vaccine inside a 12-hour period to prevent spoilage. Two U.S. Public Health Service pharmacists would join the effort, flying along to monitor the temperatures of the coolers.
