Tyndall’s first step to normal operations was to reestablish its mission sets. The 823rd REDHORSE Squadron Detachment 1 reignited its training capabilities Jan. 8, 2019, propelling its first wave of 165 students toward a deployable and mission-ready status.

  • 388th Ammo troops building bombs, cohesion

    Airmen in the 388th Maintenance Squadron’s Munitions Flight are honing their skills together in preparation for a world-wide Air Force competition. For the second year, Beale Air Force Base, California, will host the Air Force Combat Operations Competition where teams from each major command will compete for the Sierra Trophy, and the title of best munitions flight in the Air Force.The 388th Fighter Wing will compete against seven other Air Combat Command wings for the chance to represent the command later this year at Beale.
  • Admiral Faller emphasizes to USSOUTHCOM’s air component that teams win

    The Commander of U.S. Southern Command, U.S. Navy Admiral Craig Faller, visited 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) Jan 8-9, 2019. Faller recently took command of the U.S. Southern Command, which is responsible for all Department of Defense security cooperation in the 45 nations and territories of Central and South America and the Caribbean Sea. The visit was meant to integrate and familiarize him with 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern), the air and space component to USSOUTHCOM.
  • Load crew completes monthly qualification

    U.S. Airmen assigned to the 20th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, 79th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, participated in a monthly munition qualification, Jan. 10.The qualification provides load crews with a means to train on numerous munitions and remain proficient in their craft.   • More than a phase: 9th MXS maintenance critical to U-2 mission set

    Reconnaissance is the oldest mission set in combat aviation making the U-2 Dragon Lady essential to the mission of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing and the Air Force as a whole. Ensuring the long-term performance of the U-2 falls upon a team of Airmen in the 9th Maintenance Squadron who perform phase maintenance on the airframe. Phase maintenance on the U-2 can often be back-to-back and sometimes overlap due to a unique program where the Airmen at Beale serve as the maintenance hub, which means they are responsible for maintaining jets in operational and expeditionary locations.
  • JB Langley surgical team goes 'purple'

    A joint surgical team comprised of three separate branches assembled at U.S. Air Force Hospital Langley at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, in December 2018 to perform an operation. Consisting of a Navy surgeon, Air Force nurse, and Army technician, the team was organized to perform a functional endoscopic sinus surgery to restore a patient’s sinus ventilation to normal function. Providing health care in a joint environment works to improve readiness by ensuring that health care providers have the capabilities they need while providing patients with convenient access to care.
  • One base, one boss: 355th wing strengthens mission competence

    After winning the 2018 U.S. Air Force Commander-in-Chief’s Installation Excellence award, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base continued to strengthen its mission competence by officially re-designating as the 355th Wing on Jan. 2, 2019. Davis-Monthan AFB, previously home to the 355th Fighter Wing, expanded its mission set by realigning with the 563rd Rescue Group, a geographically separated unit our of Moody AFB, Georgia, bringing all rescue squadrons and maintenance units that fall under the 563rd RQG, to include other assets located at Nellis AFB, Nevada under the 355th Wing’s supervision.
