  • DoD, Warfare Center partner to introduce 5G technology at Nellis AFB

    On Oct. 8, 2020, the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center announced the award of a Department of Defense (DoD) contract to build the 5G network infrastructure and support services necessary to establish a dual-use, military and commercial network on Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada and the Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR) as directed in the FY20 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

  • Squadron Innovation Fund: 9th CONS executes, meets unit demands

    The Air Force announced a new program known as the Squadron Innovation Fund (SIF) designed to fund new ideas. The program was inspired by the success of the 99th Reconnaissance Squadron’s initiative to overcome challenges they experienced while performing their mission independent of leadership oversight. The program appropriated $64 million to provide units across the Air Force with funding for innovative ideas
  • Air Force to finalize review process for non-deployable Airmen

    The Air Force is finalizing details on how it will implement Department of Defense Instruction 1332.45, Retention Determination for Non-Deployable Service Members. Until the updated policy guidance is complete in late 2018, Airmen who have been non-deployable for 12 consecutive months and their commanders will continue to follow existing procedures.
  • Phase 1 of DHA transition set to begin

    The Defense Health Agency will assume responsibility for the administration and management of healthcare at all military medical treatment facilities through a phased approached starting Oct. 1, 2018. Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is also on the list of clinics to begin the first phase. Col. Craig Keyes, 4th Medical Group commander, is looking to have a smooth transition within the first phase and is committed to working hand-in-hand with the DHA to execute a successful transition and minimize impact to the delivery of care. The transition is mandated by 2017 National Defense Authorization Act to improve access to quality care for beneficiaries, while enhancing readiness by redefining the roles of the military medical departments and the DHA. These changes were passed with the intent to create an integrated, efficient and effective system of readiness and health that better supports the lethality of the force. Each Service, however, will remain responsible for operational mission support and readiness.
