Airman 1st Class Seth Novak competed at this years United States Air Forces in Europe international swim competition, placing first in the 50-meter freestyle, second in the 100-meter freestyle and 1st in a 4-by-100-meter freestyle Sep. 6-14, 2007. Airman Novak was featured in the Valdosta Daily Times for his achievements.

Air Combat Command social media access begins May 1
LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. -- Starting May 1, Airmen can access social media websites, like Twitter, from Air Combat Command computers. The move is part of a Department of Defense directive, which highlights the capabilities of social media and allows Airmen to tell the ACC story.

Birds not welcome
LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. -- U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Biologist Tom Olexa, shoots pyrotechnics in front of the runway here to disperse a flock of birds before a pair of F-22 Raptors (background) take off. Wet areas around the runway attract all sorts of wildlife, including birds, which pose a hazard to launching aircraft. Mr. Olexa works with the 1st Fighter Wing's Bird and Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard team, known as BASH.

LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. -- Cone devices are placed on peer poles near the airfield here where birds would perch, loof or roost. They are placed by the BASH team, which stands for Bird and Wildlife Aircraft Strike Hazard, to lower the bird activity. This in turn lowers the chances of bird strikes with aircraft.
