  • 729th Air Control Squadron exercises to bolster readiness

    From Jan. 22-Feb. 7 the 729th Air Control Squadron at Hill Air Force Base engaged in a comprehensive, two-phase readiness exercise. Throughout the military, ‘readiness’ is a common term and one that encompasses the minimum standards required by all deployable units in order to qualify as mission capable.
  • 557th WW joins 55th WG for Winter Havoc

    The 557th Weather Wing joined the 55th Wing, Offutt Air Force Base’s host wing, for the Operational Readiness Exercise Winter Havoc. Twenty-one Airmen from the 2nd Systems Operations Squadron, 2nd Weather Squadron and 16th Weather Squadron joined approximately 600 other Offutt AFB Airmen for the late January exercise, marking the first time the wing has partnered with the 55th WG for a mass readiness exercise since the 557th WW’s creation in 2015. “The 557 WW demonstrated its capability to deliver ready weather and cyber forces in support of multi-domain operations against any adversary across the entire spectrum of conflict,” said Lt Col. Kenneth Roberts, 2nd Weather Support Squadron commander and 557th WW Crisis Action Team representative for the exercise. This first phase of the exercise focused on pre-deployment preparations, getting Airmen ready to deploy and moving cargo. Phase two will continue in the spring.
  • Robins, local first responders hold Mass Accident Response Exercise

    Robins Air Force Base and local emergency services personnel participated in a Mass Accident Response Exercise Dec. 4-7, 2018, at the Guardian Centers complex in Middle Georgia. The goal of the exercise was to test the responses of Team Robins, Houston County Sheriff's Office, Perry Police Department, Houston County Ambulance Service, Perry Fire Department and Houston County Fire Department to a mock crash of an E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System aircraft.
  • Mission Complete: 53rd WEG concludes first post-Hurricane Combat Archer

    F-22s from the 27th Fighter Squadron and F-35s from the 58th Fighter Squadron successfully flew over 140 sorties and fired 13 missiles to culminate the first post Hurricane Michael Combat Archer air-to-air exercise here Dec. 14.
  • S&T 18 Wargame tests Air Force science, technology concepts for 2038

    Capability concepts to ensure the Air Force’s ability to fly, fight and win in the year 2038 were put to the test during the Air Force Materiel Command’s Science and Technology Wargame 2018, Nov. 5 to 9. The games tested the military utility of more than 30 next-generation warfighting capabilities against real-world operational scenarios, with the goal of identifying the concepts that work the best and to provide feedback to improve others with the potential for success.
  • Gen. Goldfein meets with Ukrainian air force chief

    In the latest example of the strong ties between the U.S. and Ukraine, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein held high-level discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart, Col-Gen. Sergii Drozdov, at the Pentagon, Nov. 8.
  • US Air Force participates in Angel de los Andes Colombian led search and rescue exercise

    Two U.S. Air Force aircraft and more than 90 U.S. Airmen are participating in “Angel de los Andes,” a Colombian led international search and rescue training exercise Sept. 3-14. One C-17 Globemaster III from the 14th Airlift Squadron at Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina and one C-130 Hercules from the 133rd Airlift Squadron with the Minnesota Air National Guard are among the eight U.S. Air Force Active, Guard and Reserve components participating. The first week of the exercise is focused on responding to with natural disaster scenarios that include earthquake response, a forest fire and open water rescue, as well as, responding to an aircraft crash. The second week will focus closely on close air support and combat search and rescue techniques.
  • Ninth Air Force adds joint flavor to STAFFEX 18-5

    Ninth Air Force advanced through its fifth Staff Exercise Aug. 13 through 17, focusing on operations in the U.S. Southern Command theater.
  • JBLE conducts aircraft crash exercise

    Units from Joint Base Langley-Eustis participated in an aircraft crash exercise here July 17. Emergency responders faced a simulated crash in which a U.S. Army CH-47 Chinook experiencing electrical and mechanical failures was unable to reach the airfield and crashed into a boat near the installation’s 3rd Port.
  • 20th FSS hosts search, recovery exercise

    The 20th Force Support Squadron hosted an exercise to practice search and recovery efforts with the 20th Civil Engineer Squadron and the 20th Fighter Wing Public Affairs Office at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, May 23.
