March 30, 2020 Hill AFB and the emergence of the jet age During the early years of the 1950s, the Ogden Air Materiel Area continued its involvement with propeller-driven aircraft – primarily the B-26 and B-29. This soon changed. By the end of 1953 Hill AFB became accustomed to the whine of jet engines.
