DFAS announces posting, mailing dates for tax forms Published Dec. 3, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Thomas J. Doscher Air Combat Command Public Affairs LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. (ACCNS) -- Defense Finance and Accounting Service officials have announced the dates they will mail or electronically post tax forms. Servicemembers and retirees with myPay accounts can expect to see their tax information posted online up to two weeks prior to it arriving by mail. Active duty Airmen will be able to access their W-2 forms on myPay beginning Jan. 22 and will be mailed Jan. 23 - 29 while Reserve Airmen will be able to access their forms Jan. 2. Tax statements available through myPay are approved by the Internal Revenue Service and have several advantages for the user, said Lee Krushinski, DFAS Operations acting director. "As long as a user has their log in information, they will never lose their tax statements," Mr. Krushinski said. "The statements remain online to allow customers to view and print whenever it is convenient for them. Should they need copies later in the year, they are still available." The myPay site is a secure Web-based pay information system with a series of security measures that protect against identity theft. The secure technology provided to myPay customers meets or exceeds security requirements in private industry worldwide, said DFAS officials. In addition, restricted access PIN numbers allow users to have family members or tax preparers access and download tax statements without the ability to change account information. Servicemembers and Department of Defense civilians who do not yet have a myPay account are encouraged to sign up for one, said Ken Cunningham, DFAS client executive for Air Combat Command. Downloading the form and turning off the mailing option can save the Air Force a considerable amount of money in postage costs, he added. Charley Cooper, 1st Fighter Wing Legal Office installation tax coordinator, said being able to download a W2 form gives an advantage to Airmen. "If they get their W2 early, they can file early and get their money early," she said. Ms. Cooper said Airmen who have questions about filing taxes can call their base legal offices, many of which hold tax centers during the tax season and some even year-round.
