The Air Force Network Integration Center has a long and proud history. The Center traces its roots to 1938 and the organization of the Army Airways Communication System. The mission of the Air Force Communications & Information History Office is to document the history of the Center and the Air Force communications and information community.
Resources of the Office
The collection of research materials in the Air Force Communications & Information History Office consists of more than 50,000 official histories, documents, photographs, and other artifacts that document the history of the Agency and Air Force communications and information. Some of the major categories of research materials in the collection include:
Unit Histories. These records, some in print, all on microform products, consist of all the official unit histories of the Agency from 1938 to the present and many communications units--regions, divisions, wings, groups, and squadrons--since World War II.
Biographies. These files consist of official Air Force biographies, photographs, clippings, and personal papers of key leaders of the Air Force communications and information community.
Interviews. These files contain audio recordings and typescripts of oral history interviews conducted with key leaders of the Air Force communications and information community. A finding aid is available.
Personal Papers. These records contain the personal papers, photographs and artifacts of selected key leaders of the Air Force communications and information community. Key among these files are the personal papers of Lt. Gen. Harold W. Grant, namesake of the AFCA headquarters building and first commander of Air Force Communications Service.
Photographs. The Air Force Communications and Information Historical Images Collection contains many thousand photographs related to communications and information from both official military photography and private collections.
