Mountain Home turns another page in history Published Dec. 22, 2006 By Master Sgt. Yancy Mailes 366th Fighter Wing History Office MOUNTAIN HOME AFB - Idaho -- With this being the final production run of the base newspaper, the history office felt it only right to take a look back through the years. Since the inception of Mountain Home Air Force Base, the base paper played a key role in informing the base populace of ongoing and upcoming events as well as being the first document the history office gathers for base history. Over the years, the name of the base paper has changed five times, but the content stayed relativity the same. The editors informed their readers of base events, gave them news from the war front, detailed sports scores and made everyone aware of the interesting missions here at the "patch." The newspaper stood as a constant comfort. For decades, its readers picked up the weekly paper and passed Friday mornings looking for tidbits about the base while others perused the classified ads looking for their next purchase. As 2006 comes to a close, another page in Mountain Home's history has been written. I will miss holding the base paper while I physically read it, but maybe I need to get with the times. As we move forward, you can now read the weekly paper at www.mountain-home.af.mil. It may not be the same, but it is progress. Here is a quick look at some of the front pages from the base paper from each decade.
