Jack Van Loan, a former prisoner of war, prepares to take the podium to speak about what it means to be a wingman, Sept. 27, 2011 at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. Van Loan was held in captivity for approximately six years in North Vietnam after he was shot down on May 20, 1967. Van Loan was held until his release on March 4, 1973. Van Loan was the guest speaker, and highlighted the importance of being a good wingman.
