  • Hill fighter wings conduct combat exercise

    The active duty 388th and Reserve 419th Fighter Wings conducted an integrated combat capability exercise April 30-May 2. The friendly and enemy forces were made up of F-35s from Hill, F-16s from the 311th Fighter Squadron at Holloman AFB, New Mexico and 80th FS at Kunsan Air Base, Korea, and a team of contracted aggressor pilots from Draken International, at Nellis AFB, Nevada.
  • Hill F-35A units assist in F-16 fighter training

    Brand new F-16 pilots received a unique training experience here with the help of the active duty 388th and Reserve 419th Fighter Wings and the F-35A Lightning II. For the last two weeks, F-16 basic course students and instructor pilots from the 311th Fighter Squadron at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, have been flying with and against the Air Force’s first operational F-35A units.
  • Combat exercise, weapons evaluations mean busy May at Hill

    Communities surrounding Hill Air Force Base will notice increased flying and numbers of aircraft through much of May as the base’s fighter wings conduct a large combat exercise and host a weapons evaluation. The active duty 388th Fighter Wing and Reserve 419th Fighter Wing, along with F-16 units from Holloman AFB, New Mexico, and Kunsan Air Base, Korea, will conduct an integrated combat exercise Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • ‘Tent City’ brings relief to Airmen

    One thousand service members from around the United States are set to call Tyndall Air Force Base’s “Tent City” their temporary home. In just over two weeks since Hurricane Michael made landfall along the base’s coastline, a blend of civil engineering Airmen have worked around the clock to successfully bring basic necessities to the installation.
  • Flood of support

    Airmen from the 49th Wing and 635th Materiel Maintenance Group, at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M, assisted with airlift efforts in response to the devastation of Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., by Hurricane Michael starting October 12. The seamless partnership between the 49th LRS and 635th MMG allowed for over 360 tons of potentially life-saving supplies to be transported nearly 2,000 miles. The 635th MMG is the Air Force’s only Basic Expeditionary Airfield Resources unit, known as BEAR Base.
  • Holloman’s “Fightin' 49ers” training mission transfers to the First Command

    The 49th Wing officially recognized the transfer of the base’s flying training mission to Air Education and Training Command during a ceremony here Sept. 28. The transition, effective Oct. 1, 2018, aligns the wing and all co-located units, which hosts MQ-9 Reaper and F-16 Viper formal training units, under the 19th Air Force, the numbered air force responsible for flying training across the Air Force.

But, for one Airman, it did. Staff Sgt. Colin Owens, 49th Wing Chapel religious affairs Airman, knew early into his air traffic controller career something needed to change.
  • POW/MIA Remembrance Day at Holloman

    Holloman Air Force Base honored service members who were imprisoned or remain missing-in-action with a 24-hour vigil and run September 20 – 21, here. A ceremony launched a vigil, with Senior Master Sgt. John Chacon, 49th Civil Engineer Squadron operations superintendent, speaking about the remembrance of POW/MIA, followed by a roll call of honor naming 12 New Mexico natives still in missing in action, dating back to the Vietnam War.
  • Holloman to transition to AETC

    Holloman Air Force Base will be re-assigned to a new major command during a ceremony scheduled on Sept. 28th. The base re-alignment will move Holloman’s 49th Wing from Air Combat Command to Air Education and Training Command. The move will allow Air Force leaders, as well as key subject matter experts, to more effectively highlight and support the Holloman mission and its impact on global operations.
