    Women’s History Month takes flight

    Members of Team Offutt conducted a training flight composed of mostly women March 18, 2020, in honor of Women’s History Month.
  • Five RC-135 Rivet Joint reconnaissance aircraft assigned to the 55th Wing, Offutt AFB, Nebraska, rest on the flightline at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. The aircraft evacuated to MacDill due to rising floodwaters at Offutt, providing a safe location to bed down out of harm’s way. The RC-135s support a worldwide mission for theater and national level consumers with near real time on-scene intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination capabilities.

    MacDill AFB accepts aircraft in response to Offutt AFB flooding

    Five RC-135 Rivet Joint reconnaissance aircraft assigned to the 55th Wing, Offutt AFB, Nebraska, relocated here over the weekend due to rising floodwaters at Offutt. The relocation to MacDill Air Force Base ensures the aircraft remain out of harm’s way until they can safely return to their home station.

    Wrench thrown in navigator’s plan

    In the 1970s, Norton Air Force Base, California, was home to Air Mobility Command, meaning lots of heavy aircraft and even more maintainers to keep its mission going – among the many were Dennis and Ruth Barmore, a machinist and sheet metal specialist, respectively. While serving in an aircraft maintenance squadron together, they met, fell in love, married and had their first born son, Harley. More than 40 years later, their legacy has come full circle. While Ruth separated after her first enlistment, their son, now Lt. Col. Harley Barmore, continued to follow his father’s Air Force maintenance career from base to base. Over the years, he developed an appreciation for the craft and planned to follow suit.

    Honoring our roots: Offutt family returns

    On Aug. 13, 2018, one hundred years, to the day of his passing, generations of Lt. Jarvis Offutt decedents gathered around his grave, white roses in hand. In their company were members of the 55th Wing, who call Offutt Air Force Base home, members of the Royal Air Force 56 Squadron, the unit Lt. Offutt perished serving, and many others who wished to share in honoring his legacy. At the culmination of a wreath laying ceremony by allied countries, 56 Squadron Leader David Hockley, took a minute to recite a stanza from Laurence Binyon’s poem, “For the Fallen.”
