    Contested Coastal Rescue Training

    The 48th and 55th Rescue Squadrons completed contested maritime training off the coast of California, Nov. 1-14, 2020. The training included day and night operations in which they executed a series of rescue procedures over the Pacific Ocean to enhance overall rescue capabilities, not only on land but also over and in water.

    POL enables faster turnarounds, longer missions

    “With hot-pit refuels we’re prepositioned and they taxi to us and with the engines still running,” said Tech. Sgt. Zachary Beggin, 23d LRS NCO in charge of fuels distribution. “They hookup, refuel and their back up in the air and it decreases ground time by 66 percent.” Less ground time means more time in the air and in the mission. This tactic equips aircrews with the ability to push the operations tempo and also minimize the demand for maintenance support.

    “Fight and Save:" French exchange pilot reaches multinational dream

    Allured by the distant chopping of helicopter blades, a young French boy diverts his attention from his television screen to watch native pilots rescue stranded hikers in Southeast France. Glancing back at his favorite show, he notices an American pilot navigating a similar airframe, causing him to wonder what it would be like to fly a ‘chopper.’ Through sheer determination, Commandant Micka propelled himself to serve and fly for both nations. As part of the 67th Helicopter Squadron “Pyrenees”, Cazaux Air Base, France, he was proud to “Fight and Save,” fulfilling the French air force helicopter community’s mantra. Now, he’s a part of Moody’s 41st Rescue Squadron to contribute to their motto.
